NOTES FOR THE CREW
Crew home locations shown above (zoom out for more)
We'll set up a social media space so you can discuss ride sharing.
Community will provide transport to/from the local airport (20 mins) as needed.
- Crossing the border (CA Border Services knows about the project - a good thing!)
Letters will be available to you explaining the project to Border Services.
You should carry an inventory of all your tools and project related gear.
CA Border is very strict about guns, dogs, drugs, some knives, etc - check before you travel.
- Health Insurance Coverage
Your Guild has an additional benefit since you are a Member - we hold a Medical Insurance Policy for all our Volunteers working on TFG Projects. People DO occasionally get injured on projects (sometimes no fault of their own) and we all know that medical costs can quickly be incomprehensible.
But these policies may NOT cover you during your travels and "vacation time" touring BC. You can secure Travel Medical Insurance quite easily (without complicated pre-existing conditions) if you sign up well before your trip.
Instructors and paid staff will be covered by a TFG WorksafeBC policy for work-related injuries.
Please evaluate your unique situation and make sure you will be covered for medical expenses in Canada for the duration of your trip.
- Everyone on the Crew is expected / encouraged to supply the following:
Hi-visibility vest / shirt
Hard hat (we can supply for flyers)
Other personal protective gear as desired
Private tool kit
Mug for coffee, drinks so we don't have to use disposables
Name/tag on everything brought to site so it can be returned when lost (hats, gloves, tools, pencils, everything!)
A contribution to the TFG Auction (all proceeds promote other TFG programs)
Label all your tools (even small ones) so they can be returned when found
If you have tools to share, extra thanks - some crew flying in will need loaners
If you borrow tools - return them in better shape than taken (sharper, cleaner)
Return tool to where it is supposed to be, not necessarily where you picked it up
Respect other's desire to "not share" part / all of their kit - that is ok
If you don't know how to properly use a tool, ask for training
If you damage a tool - immediately notify the owner and get it fixed
- Comfort and community support
Truck / RV camping spots will be available - but no services or hookups, and outside security fences
Community hopefully can provide some camping equipment for flying attendees
Meals & breaks will be provided by the community
Portable toilets and showers will be provided on site and / or close by
Full town services are about 5 km from the site (an uncomfortable walk)
Working now toward discount hotel lodging options
- TFG Auction
Tools (new or used), regional wines, sweets, fun t-shirts, books
Crafts, personally crafted items, gift certificates, tokens from the project
Note that all items should be suitable for display and sharing at this low-key, optional, family friendly activity.
- Sawhorse Plan
